Install Spam Plug In

Newbie-i would like to know exacty which file to install a spam comment pug in into and where. i believe it’s in wp-comments-popup.php’ or ‘wp-comments.php’. Here’s another stupid question how do i know which one is active? Do i have popup commnets, or not, well nothing pops up when i make a comment, no jack in the box or anything like it. i do go to a new page, is that a pop up? Pretty undramatic 🙂
