Install script did ont complete?

Hello all my first post here so i will try to keep it clean heehee. Anyhow i am running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and installed using apt-get. Probably a mistake in retrospect i hate it when they try to make it easy for me as most of the default docs do help and the debian based ones did not work.

Anyways i think my installation was incomplete it gave me a wordpress header with a blank screen then sat their. A thought great it must be done then, went to the site and sure enough there is a word press site there now.

However i do not think i got to step 2, and do not remember entering a username or password anywhere. when i try to reset the password by entering Admin and the sites admin email address (which i did enter step 1) it gives me this error.

Hope this has not been posted before as this is my first wordpress install in about 10 years
