Do one step at a time.
Move on to the next step only when the previous one was succesful.
All steps have numbers, so you can tell us where you are, what went OK, and where you need more explanation. NEVER share passwords etc. on our forum / over the internet
I’ll start right at the beginning, not knowing exactly which steps you’ve done and completed succesfully. When you find an instruction that’s ‘done’, just move to the next…

Preparations [yes / no / don’t know / what do you mean]

All these things should be in the letters / mails and documentation sent by your webhost
- Who is the webhost? BT?
- Did they confirm the activation of your webhosting service?
- Did they send you the data required to set up your site?
- your ‘domainname’ e.g: http://www.carysl.co.uk
- username and password to access your domain / site through a webbrowser?
- username, password and FTP-address of the server your site is hosted on
- did you / the webhost already create a ‘mysql-database’ and databasename and password
If not use the webaccess provided by the webhost to access your site and create a database and user. Make sure you write down and keep secure these data!
If all of the above is done / in place, start the installation
- host: server20.bt.co.uk
- port: [leave blank]
- protocol:FTP-File Transfer Protocol
- Encription: use normal FTP
- Login type: normal
- User: [in the mail / docs the webhost sent]
- Password: [in the mail / docs the webhost sent]
- press çonnect-button
If the above went well, you are connected to the site.
In the LEFT half of the screen, your desktop PC is shown.
In the RIGHThalf of the screen sits the WEBSITE

Install WP-files

- Browser:download a fresh copy of the WP-files and store them on your PC
- UNZIP the WP-files; In win-explorer: right-click and unpack / unzip
- FTP:
- FTP:PC-side: Open the folder with the unzipped WP-files
- FTP-Web’side’:go to the folder ‘httpdocs’
- FTP:PC-side:select all WP-files >> right-click >> upload
All WP-files will be uploaded to your site; This may take a while, depending on the speed of your internet-connection. Wait patiently.
- Check if upload completed without errors: middle tab at the bottom of the ftp-screen

First contact through your BROWSER

- browser:open your website, by typing your domainname
e.g. http://www.carysl.co.uk
WP will start a screen to start the famous 5-minute install
There doesn't seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started.

tick / untick the Allow search engines to index this site. option
click ‘install wordpress’
You should now have a working site.
