Hi. Hope someone can help me with this…

Been running WordPress for a couple of years without any major issues, but this one has me somewhat foxed.

After running perfectly well when I posted an entry yesterday, the site has now gone a bit strange. When I go to the index page, nothing loads except the background colour & image, and it takes forever to do that. Trying to go directly to admin or login gets me no-where.

So, I decided to have a look at the database, and found upon running ‘check database’ that a few of the tables had the message “8 people are using this, tables have not been closed properly” (or words to that effect). So I ran ‘repair database’, and it now says all tables are OK. but it’s had no effect whatsoever.

I’ve downloaded the database and backed it up. I’ve run a fresh install of wordpress on the site, still having the same problem. I can go to and view any of the posts/archives/galleries by going to them directly but everytime I go to the index/admin/login I get nothing. Also, I found if I try to edit a post directly from the post page I can get into admin, but when I try to save it just takes ages until eventually a dialogue box opens up asking if I want to save the page ‘postnumber’.php

I’m a bit worried as although I downloaded the database, if the problem is already in there.. I may have to try and added the data back into a fresh install by hand through phpmyadmin. I’ve done this before and it took ages. 🙁

You can see the problem happening here:

and see the pages still behaving properly by going to

..and using any of the navigation (apart from ‘blog’ to get around the site.

I did a search, but didn’t find anything pertinent. Sorry.

    Any help greatly appreciated,

    – Sarah.

  • Very difficult to ‘see’ from here (without ftp access, etc.).

It almost appears that something is tripping up either in header.php or a plugin that’s inserting something into the header.

Well. I just meant you’d be able to see it’s not loading. Yet if I access the site from any other page other than the index I can get around it just fine. If it was tripping up in the header wouldn’t it be tripping in all of them?

I haven’t altered anything in admin, or in the database in between the site being fine and then being borked. So it’s a bit of a mystery to me.

I meant troubleshooting something like this is harder without being able to just open *.php files…

You’re right about the header. Checked your index.php?

Ugh. It’s just started working. And I have no idea why!

Thanks for your help anyway. Sorry to have bothered you over what now seems to be nothing more than a server hiccup..

It seems like in the past several years hosts have stopped communicating well with customers. It used to be a system-wide email would be sent out when admin’s were aware of unresolved issues (even server-reboots), keeping people informed and stemming the flood of calls to support.

Bleh. Forgive my stroll down memory lane…
