Today one of my site users created an event and the displayed date/time was wrong. After some testing I confirmed that this was restricted to the Events Calender, other timestamp functions worked correctly. We saw that there was a WordPress system update last night and reverted to 5.4.2 the previous one. That fixed the issue, but my suspicion is that it is still an issue for updated sites.

The issue is that the timezone correction is not happening. If I create an event for New York, the event (and also the timestamp on the date/time created) are both Universal time.

    Hey there @jbealle

    Thanks for heads up!
We haven’t noticed similar issues from other users but we’ll keep on eye on it.

Let me know if you’re able to reproduce it back or have any other details
    This can be helpful

When I create an event and click Publish, just above the Publish button there is a timestamp “Published on…”. This timestamp is not adjusted correctly, it displays UTC.

Just to the right of the timestamp there is an Edit link. When I click this, the event time is filled in and in this case it is correctly adjusted to local time.

Can you tell from this difference where the problem might be coming from?

I had assumed that WordPress made the adjustment and you just took the local time from them. But if this were a WordPress 5.5.3 issue they would have fixed it promptly. Any idea where I should be looking? The time settings in the Settings panel are correct, with the two live clocks showing UTC and local time.

    Hi @jbealle

Thanks for getting back to us, and making these observations.

Can you check the time zone settings for the Events Calendar plugin (Events > Settings) at the backend of your site, and see what option is selected there for the Time zone mode.

That may be the source of this issue.

    Best regards,

The setting was “use site-wide timezone everywhere”. I changed it to “manual timezone,” created a new event, and still did not get the adjustment. So neither setting works. The published event has the EST suffix but the time is UTC.

So basically for either setting, I enter a time of 1pm EST and the result is an event at 6pm EST.

Also I see that I was incorrect saying this worked properly in WordPress 5.4.2. I actually do not know when this problem started. We have not held many events recently and could easily not noticed when it first appeared.

I am still having this issue, even after updating to Events Calendar 5.3.0. I had hoped this might be fixed in the update.

I have tried deactivating all plugins except Events Calendar, and the problem persisted.

Also I noticed you recommended to another user to install a development version, 5.9.8.2. This advice was in WordPress support https://wordpress.org/support/topic/fix-timezone-issue/ about a month ago. I went to Settings > General but didn’t see any update option listed.
