Including affiliate link inside wordpress theme customizer

    I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, but am I allowed to include affiliate link inside wordpress theme customizer? I mean, I would include it inside a customiser of a theme that I’d submit here as a free GPL theme. I would create a new section and add banner with affiliate link and some text explaining why I am advertising certain product or service.

    Good question …

    With GPL license I believe you are allowed to modify the software however you might be able.

    That being said, it is my understanding the WordPress.org theme review team will not approve for the repository any theme containing advertising of any kind.

    I saw themes that have included advertisements to their pro versions. That is the same kind of advertising IMO. I haven’t seen anywhere in terms that would forbid doing so.

    There is also a donate button in customizr.

    I forgot to mention that I’m planning to advertise WordPress themes or hosting and not cooking supplies or cialis.

    That’s not the same as advertising. Donating is a gift from the theme user, advertising takes the user’s dashboard and turns it into a FOR SALE billboard. You would be using someone else’s dashboard real estate for your ads. The two are not the same thing. 😉
