Include $calendar variable in events-list.php

I’m trying to customize my events-list.php template. On the calendar-full.php template it includes the $calendar variable and it’s very handy. I’m kind of stumped on why I can’t access the $calendar variable from the events-list.php template. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how this variable is included in the plugin? Is there a global variable I can access or something similar?
