    Hello!
Every since I updated my site to 4.7.4 My sidebar will longer work. When you visit the widget page or try to move widgets through the theme customization section the only place you can place widgets is in the main section.

The side bar is listed at the bottom of the widget page and it reads “Inactive sidebar, not used” below it states “This sidebar is no longer available and does not show anywhere on your site.”

I’ve tried to fix this by trying multiple themes that I know have sidebars. They only allow widgets to be placed in the main bar. Is this a mistake or is wordpress trying to go another direction?

Stuff in “inactive sidebars” is stuff that was in a sidebar that does not exist in your current theme. Just drag them to the sidebar(s) your theme supports.

Ok. It’s just none of my themes are now allowing me a sidebar at all. The only place I can place widgets is in the middle of the page.

At first I thought it was my current theme (Olsen light, which by their photo allows a sidebar) I reverted to previous themes which I had a sidebar and I get the same result.

Sidebars are theme specific. What happens if you try the twentysixteen theme?

Sidebar works fine with twentysixteen. It must be the theme. It’s weird because I tried several themes I have used in the past and had the same result. I guess I will have to contact the theme creator for support. Strange because they even display the theme with a sidebar Olsen light

    Thank you for helping 🙂

“Twenty Seventeen is a great default theme for WordPress with many features and options to personalize it. Unfortunately it doesn’t display a sidebar on pages, which can be important on business sites.”

For this reason, they created a tiny plugin called Page Sidebar for Twenty Seventeen, which does all the work for you.
