huge problems importing sample content
Are you importing the same ‘sample content’ each time? What theme(s)? Where is this ‘sample content’ from? Did you ask theme provider(s)?
Please include as much information as possible.
Yes, I wiped my database and started all over again every time. Tried it with Berliner, InTouch, MusicPlay.. All with same results. I think it’s safe to say it has nothing to with the themes then. So complaining to theme providers is just a waste of my and their time then.
Nobody else who experiences this?

importing sample content from themes through the WordPress Importer.
Please explain this in details. This not clear at all.
Which details do you need, Tara? “This is not clear at all” is not very clear to me either ;-).
@tara: I’m importing sample content from the InTouch theme (ThemeForest). The provided sample content-file is around 750 kb. It’s in XML-format. I’m using Safari on a late 2013 iMac, all updated to the latest versions. I tried uploading to both WordPress 4.2.2 and WordPress 4.1.5.
My server is a dedicated server, running nginx. I’m uploading from a home connection served by Dutch provider Telfort, with 3 MB/s upstream. Detailed enough?

Now that we have this (most) important piece of your puzzle, please note that this forum provides support for themes found here (and not from the providers of Commercial Products). Please consult the provider of your theme on this.
@pioneer: didn’t I write I tried it with several themes? Why are you forwarding me to a commercial party if this problem is WordPress-wide? To be forwarded to this forum again? Then I’m just walking in circles.
WordPress Importer is not a commercial plug-in. It is standard in WordPress. Even if I’d import 10 Posts from another WordPress site it won’t work. It is – as stated before – not theme-specific. Therefore your post is not relevant.
Why are you forwarding me to a commercial party if this problem is WordPress-wide?
That statement is not accurate. If ALL themes had this issue, this forum would be inundated with such requests. Since it is not, I find your findings false and improper.
This is a simple troubleshooting issue in that the OP has not properly explained or misunderstands the issue at hand.
If you follow and then actually read (and understand) the links provided in response, you will see why they are given.
When an OP cannot, or chooses not to, it does not change the response.
Pioneer: I definitely hope you approach your customers in a more elegant way, when you fix a problem for them. However, I fixed it myself already. And the solution was not ‘contact the developer’. I’m not willing to share the solution. Pay me for it :-)).
