Importing backup database

I have recently installed WordPress locally on my MAC using MAMP. The install went through just fine, so it was time to import a database that I have backed up from an earlier wordpress install that was on the web previously. I went into phpMyAdmin to import the file and it was done successfully.

Unfortunately, when I navigate to the local folder now http://localhost:8888/wordpress Firefox tells me it’s “Unable to Connect” and “Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost.” I’m sure you’ve all seen this error before, when connecting to websites that aren’t there.

I’m not sure what happens when I import this database, has anyone else experienced this problem?
