Hi @derlehre,
Thanks for reporting this, we were able to reproduce the issue, and it is indeed a genuine bug in the Immersive layout.
What’s happening: When a course has a featured video but no featured image, the Immersive layout places the video player inside the narrow enrollment card on the right, which causes it to display in the wrong proportions. As a result, the video becomes very tall and narrow, appearing mostly as a black box and making it look like the video isn’t playing.
The Minimal layout doesn’t have this issue because it displays the video in a full-width banner.
As a workaround for now:
You can set a featured image for the course under Course → Featured Image. With a featured image added, the Immersive layout will display the image with a play button, and clicking it will open the video in a popup where it works correctly.
We’ve already prepared a fix for this issue, and it will be included in an upcoming release.
If adding a featured image doesn’t resolve the issue, could you please share the exact External video URL you’re using? If it’s a YouTube or Vimeo link, please make sure to select YouTube or Vimeo as the video source instead of External. The External option is intended for direct video file URLs, such as links ending in .mp4.
Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, and we appreciate your patience while we work on the fix.
Hello dear @sauravkhanal
My course has a featured image.the immersive layout shows the featured image, but my course also has a featured video. The featured image is there but the featured video is not played.
Hi @derlehre,
Thanks for the clarification, and we’re sorry for the confusion in our earlier reply.
We need to correct a few things we said. The issue we described only affects courses without a featured image, so it doesn’t apply to your setup, and adding a featured image won’t solve it. The fix we mentioned is for that separate case, not for the problem you’re seeing.
We should also have mentioned earlier that the featured video, including external video links, is not a Masteriyo free feature. The WordPress.org forum guidelines don’t allow us to discuss premium features here, so please contact us through https://masteriyo.com/support/ and share the video link you’re using. Our team will investigate it with you there.
If you’re using the free version, the video option is currently visible in the course editor, but the featured video isn’t part of the free plugin, which is why the video doesn’t play. This is a mistake on our side, and we’ll correct it in an upcoming update.
We’re marking this topic as resolved since it will continue through our support channel. Thank you for your patience.
