Images not loading; Media Gallery broken

    Hello,

    No images from the media gallery are loading on our site, which has broken a whole lots (including out shop). The media gallery is showing blank thumbnails for every image (all images were uploaded via the dashboard, not FTP).

    The images still exist and are accessible – going directly to the image URL works fine. Images added to posts by typing in the image URL appear, but images inserted via the “Add Media” buttons do not appear.

    Things were working fine on Sunday February 17, but are broken as of Tuesday February 19.

    WordPress Version 5.0.3
    PHP Version 5.6.37 (I do not currently have the means to update the PHP – I’m working on that, in case that’s the problem)
    Database Server version 5.6.41
    Permalinks are set to Plain – changing to other options did not appear to affect anything
    Permissions are set to 0755 for folders and 0644 for files in wp-content/uploads

    Any help would be appreciated.
