Images not appearing

    Hi. I’m trying to add a Gallery to a new page for my workplace. Honestly, the website is a mess, but I’ve done my best to figure it out and keep it secure. However, I didn’t build it and don’t have access to the raw code so many parts are stuck the way they are until I can convince my boss to launch an entirely new site. So in the meantime, I want to add a simple gallery to a new page.

    I added images from the media library and pasted the gallery shortcode into a Custom Content section on the new page but the images only show as grey boxes. The images appear correctly in the gallery preview but not on the actual published page.

    First, I started with a Single Thumbnail layout, which showed grey boxes. Then I tried the Image Viewer layout hoping the images would appear, but they don’t. No matter which layout I use, the images don’t show up.

    I inspected the element and opened the console to find the following error codes (below) that do not match the javascript error codes in the help doc . I have no idea how to fix this. Please help!

    Disabling Lazy loading may have fixed the issue.

    Edit: Disabling Lazy loading made the images appear but the galleries still don’t function properly and when clicking on the primary thumbnail, only the one image appears, not in a lightbox or a new page.

    • The arrow buttons in the the Image Viewer layout don’t make the next photo appear.
    • The Single thumbnail layout does not let any of the other image be viewed.
    • The Carousel layout does not show up at all.

    I chose these three layouts because I know my boss will like these three the most out of all the options so I’m hopeful I can get at least one of them in working order.

    The error codes in the console did not change.

    Edit2: I am also not able to change the theme as this is the theme my boss has chosen to stick with.

    I’m giving up and finding a different plugin. This is not worth my time.

    Hi @eraltitude

    I’m sorry to learn that you are going through these issues. As an initial troubleshooting step, kindly login to your WordPress admin and login to FooGallery -> Settings -> General, and then click on the “Clear HTML Cache” and “Clear CSS Cache” buttons.

    Once that’s done, load the page on an incognito tab to test if the image thumbnails will load and if the image will be opened in the lightbox when clicked.

    Hi. Thanks for responding.

    I cleared both caches and while the first image appears, the arrows don’t work to scroll through the slides and when I click on the first image, it opens the image file in a new tab.

    @eraltitude sorry for the delay and thanks for posting the video.
    it looks like your theme is loading another lightbox, so when you click the thumb it is loading in that lightbox. Also, the JS error on your page could be causing the gallery JS to not run, but it is hard to tell from the video. I tried to visit your page but I get a 404 – can you make it public so we can debug the problem please?

    Hi @bradvin,

    No worries and thank you for posting! I definitely agree that the JS error is likely causing the lightbox issue, as I am having a similar problem with other gallery plugins as well. I think the issue may stem from within the theme’s primary code, because I keep seeing the same error in the dev tools console for them too, but please let me know what you find.

    I had a look at your site. It looks like autoptimize JS optimization is causing issues with your javascript loading order. This can be confirmed by temporarily disabling the javascript optimization in autoptimize. If that confirms the problem, then you can exclude certain scripts from the optimization to solve the problem for good.

    Looking at the console errors, it looks like jQuery is not defined, which means scripts that depend on jquery are running before jquery is finished loading. This is usually due to scripts being forced to defer loading. You can try turn that off, or exclude scripts from being deferred.
