I’ve finally got my site back up but now the images are not working. I’ve disabled all of the plugins, would that have caused it? Any suggestions? I’m not very experienced in this area.

All your images are returning a “404 Not Found” error. Are you sure they’re in the same place they were prior to whatever problem you had? Did you make any other changes while you were fixing your site?

I just got an email from Google saying that there is hacked content on my site. I’m not sure what to do. Here is the email:

    To: Webmaster of http://lifefling.ca/,

Google has detected that your site has been hacked by a third party who created malicious content on some of your pages. This critical issue utilizes your site’s reputation to show potential visitors unexpected or harmful content on your site or in search results. It also lowers the quality of results for Google Search users. Therefore, we have applied a manual action to your site that will warn users of hacked content when your site appears in search results. To remove this warning, clean up the hacked content, and file a reconsideration request. After we determine that your site no longer has hacked content, we will remove this manual action.

Following are one or more example URLs where we found pages that have been compromised. Review them to gain a better sense of where this hacked content appears. The list is not exhaustive.

Do you have a backup you can restore? You might also check with your host to see if they see any problems on your site. If you determine that your site has, in fact, been compromised here are a few things to consider:
The Exploit Scanner plugin can help detect damage so that it can be cleaned up. Here is an another online scanner to check for exploits and malware: http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/.
    Other things you should do:

    • Change passwords for all users, especially Administrators and Editors.
    • If you upload files to your site via FTP, change your FTP password.
    • Re-install the latest version of WordPress.
    • Make sure all of your plugins and themes are up-to-date.
    • Update your security keys.
    • See FAQ My Site Was Hacked.

Just cleaning out files isn’t enough. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.
