    Is it really necessary to have so many versions of the same image sitting on the server? With this plugin I have about 19 versions of every single image. Seems redunant.

    This issue was fixed in version 1.4.0 of the plugin. You can now opt in to the “Cover Art” feature, and if you do not opt in, the image sizes will not be created. For existing installations, you need to turn cover art off in settings.
