Image uploads, but file is not created

    Hello,
    I’m having a strange issue with WordPress 3.0.1:

    When uploading an image, the upload seems successful, but no thumbnaail is available in “Media”.
    I checked the uploads folder and the directory is not even created.

    Here’s what I tried:

    1. Setting permissions to 777 – doesn’t help
    2. Manualy creating the folder – folder is created, but files are not upoaded into it
    3. Checking with the host – the owner of the uploaded filed is not APACHE, its the user himself
    4. Turning off all plugins – doesn’t help
    5. Installing a fresh copy of WP on the same host – seems to work perfectly fine

    Help is appreciated.
