Image upload form, custom field

Hi all,

I’m developing a theme for a rather technologically inept client.

It’s nothing fancy, just a basic online store / cms.

Is there any way I can use an image upload form to upload an image into a custom field as oppose to actually manually uploading the image via FTP and then inserting the file name into the value box as I’m sure this would be beyond her

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
