• Hi! I’m still new to this so don’t judge.

Once I download a plug in (such as image slider) what do I do with all of the folders. How do I “activate” the download?

  • We try very hard not to judge as we were all beginners once. 🙂

When you say “download”, do you meant to your computer or to your WordPress site?

    Hello alyssakipper,

If you’ve downloaded the plugin in your computer, then just extract that and paste the extracted file in your wordpress site’s
“wp-content > plugins” folder through the ftp. And visit your wordpress site’s admin panel(dashboard) and click on “Plugins” navigated in the sidebar.
You’ll see your plugin is listed over there now just click on the “Activate” to activate the plugin. That’s all, now the plugin is activated.
Or you can download and install it by wordpress admin panel also. For that visit your wordpress admin panel and Click on “Plugins > Add New”.
Now enter the desired plugin name in the search field and hit “enter” key. You’ll see the list of plugins, just click on “Install Now” and wait
for a while. And then the activation link will be appeared, just click on “Activate” to activate the plugin.

Hope this is what you were asking.

Thanks for your response. My problem is that I don’t have “plugins” on the side bar, would you happen to know why it’s not there?

Another way to add the slider is

    Dashboard–>plugins–>add new–>search for the plugin–>click install–>
    Activate.
Go to the slider option in the Dash Board
create slider—>Add photos—>save–>copy the short code–>paste it in your posts
    Thats it.

    My Dashboard doesn’t have a plugins option…

It seems there is some plugin which is hiding the plugins option. But if you’ve FTP of your site, you can visit the “wp-content -> plugins”
folder, and see the plugins listed in that folder. There may be some plugin which is hiding the plugins option in your dashboard.
Make sure that you’re logged-in as an admin, because it’s possible that plugins options are not showing due to capabilities of logged-in users.
Also make sure that you’re not running a multi site, if you are, then logged-in as super admin and go to network setting and see the setting
something like Enable Menus. Toggle the checkbox setting and save changes. And see if it’s working.

I’m sorry I know this sounds stupid, but I don’t know what FTP means….It says that my role is an “Administrator”…that’s what its supposed to be, correct? How would I log in as a Super Admin?

To use FTP, you will need to set up an FTP client . Or use whatever file management application your host provides.

If I upgrade to Premium, and am able to customize the CSS, would I be able to do it?

I’m thinking I need to have someone show me or I need to pay someone to help.

If you can’t do the work yourself, you have the option of engaging a professional to assist you. If you want to follow that option and hire someone for this, then please try one of these sites: http://jobs.wordpress.net/
    or
    http://directory.codepoet.com/

(FYI, it’s not a good idea to respond to work offers from random forum users who have read about your issues.)

can you confirm that you are using self hosted WordPress.org or are you using WordPress.com?
please share link to your website.

Try to access the url http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/plugins.php and see if the plugins are visible. And logging-in as Super Admin,
it means that you’re running a multisite, if not then “Administrator” is ok.
