Image optimization with width parameter

Hello fellow forum members,
I transferred my blog from wordpress.com to my own host, but I encountered an issue. Basically, on wordpress.com the images are being compressed with a width parameter so it is for example

*.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/photo.jpeg?w=500

However on my local server this didn’t work. I tried few plugins but they didn’t work as I expected. I searched on Google and in the forum about this problem, but I failed finding a solution. Any help will be appreciated.
