Image Optimization – Remove Original Image Backups
-
Hi,
I am trying to understand how this works more precisely and the utility of removing original image backups.
Let’s take as an example this image from my website -> http://prntscr.com/o5ns9l
Basically, I see that image optimization created a
.webpversion and also a replacement of the original.jpg(while also saving a.bk.jpg) for each format size automatically created by WordPress upon uploading (ex: 100×100, 300×300, etc.).However, I notice that for the original-sized uploaded image (i.e.
DSC_0117-1-min.jpg) there is no.bk.jpgcreated, but only a.webpversion.Correct me wherever and whether I am wrong please:
1) The original-sized uploaded image (i.e.
DSC_0117-1-min.jpg) remains untouched and there is no.bk.jpgcreated, while ONLY the WordPress’s automatic standard sizes (100×100, 300×300, etc.) havebk.jpgversions.2) When choosing to Remove Original Image Backups, all
.bk.jpgversions will be deleted, but the original-sized uploaded image (i.e.DSC_0117-1-min.jpg) remains untouched.3) Removing Original Image Backups will delete those
.bk.jpgversions only from the server and nothing from the database.4) There is only one benefit from removing original backups, and that is just saving up some server disk usage.
Thank you.
