Hello, we just started using the media converter plugin. When I drag and drop an image from our website onto my desktop, it saves as webp, however, on the backend it states it was converted but the file type is still displaying as jpg or png. Any ideas on how to force them all to webpg in the media library?

    Thanks for the support!

    Hi @shawnacason,

    Thank you for your message.

Please describe to me how exactly you test this? Also send screenshots. I’ll check it.

Hi Mateusz, here is an example:
When I drag and drop our all-day menu from https://hivebakeryandcafe.com/menu/all-day/, it displays as webpg. However, our media library (see screenshot), it shows that it is still a png.

@shawnacason I want to see what might have gone wrong. Could you send me a screenshot of the Help Center tab in the plugin’s settings? I will check it because in this tab I have information about the status of your website.

@shawnacason I checked and on your website the images are loaded in WebP format.

The reports we receive very often do not concern a problem with the plugin operation, but problems with understanding how the plugin works. Below I have attached the tutorial describing how to test the plugin:

Thank you for the explanation. I followed your instructions, and its starting to become more clear. However, can you clarify, if I clear our website cache, then will it fix the issue to where a file from the front-end that is downloading as (AVIF – I upgraded), but still shows and downloads as PNG via the Media Library, will this be forced to display as AVIF? I am just a little confused as to how it can download on the front-end as one file, but then on the backend not update the file type.

@shawnacason Why do you expect AVIF type media in your library?

The plugin does not change URLs. When a browser tries to download an image file, the plugin checks if it supports the AVIF format (if enabled in the plugin settings). If so, the browser will receive the equivalent of the original image in the AVIF format. If it does not support AVIF, but supports the WebP format, the browser will receive the equivalent of the original image in WebP format. In case the browser does not support either WebP or AVIF, the original image is loaded. This means full support for all browsers.
