Hey, could you be a bit more specific? Not quite sure what hover effect lighten means. By default the hover effect should be transparent. Are you not seeing this?
Are you wanting just to add a portfolio tab to your primary menu? If you’ve created a portfolio page you can just select it and click add to menu in appearance > menus.

no, I try another way.
If you go to the portfolio page in the Virtue Free Theme Demo
and hoover over the thumbnails – ( e.g. the upper left – Gallery photography ) – then the image is more transpartent.
This is the effect I want to have.
How can I do that? Are these things much easier to manage with the Premium Theme?

It should do this by default. Without a link I can’t really tell you why yours isn’t.
