• I have lunarpages hosting (and they wont help me) so I have version 3.1, I need version 3.0 for my template. I have read the installation instructions many times but I do not know how to do this version modification. I know I need to do it manually because that is all the help I have gotten from my host.

Pleas I am desperate I need someone to help me understand how to do this!

    Thank you!!

  • I can’t imagine that a theme would work with 3.0 and not with 3.1, but since I believe there have been no database changes between 3.0 and 3.1, your question should be resolved when you simply replace all WP files with 3.0 files.

Thanks for your help Roy!! It is a templte I bought from templatetuning and they insist that when I upload the theme I get an error answer because of the version differnce the only way I can know if this is correct is by using version 3.0.

It has been a real nightmare so far.

How do I replace those WP files? Where do I find them?

Thanks again, this help means the world to me 🙂

How did you install WP? Some automatic installation? In that case, it’s going to be hard trying to talk you through it. You’ll need FTP access to your server to replace the files…

I used the automatic installation the host provides. I want to use filezila ftp because the host recomends it but I get a

“Protocol error: Unknown protocol identifier (0x50 0x50 0x48). Most likely connected to the wrong port.
    Connection to server closed.”

I am using the port my host told me to use so I dont know what is wrong.

Also do I need to have PHP installed to save the wp-config.php?

    Thanks

I can’t help you with the FTP connection problems, hopefully your host can. As for your second question, you can just download and upload PHP files, you don’t have to run them. When you need to edit one, just open it in Notepad. But to come back to your initial question, you could try to just upload the whole 3.0 pack and only if that doesn’t do the trick, delete the files there before uploading new ones, all but wp-config.php and the theme of course (and plugins, you might want to leave the wp-content folder alone).

As soon as you told me that 3.0 and 3.1 where probably compatible I contacted templatetuning and told them so, they fist said this was not pssible but then asked

templatetuning> You have to use the 3.0 version if it is stated insoftware required box
templatetuning> The engine is free. You can download it anywhere on the Internet or on the official site of the engine.
[06:16:22] <leonor> I know but wordpress says that it should work with 3.1
templatetuning> I have contacted our Senior technician and he confirmed that they are compatible

Now they just dont know why I cant install their template. Lunarpages has no idea if they are compatible but they offer to charge me $89 to find out.

You seam to be the only person who knows what he is talking about. What should I do? Should I continue manuall instalation?

    Thanks!!!

It’s never smart to use an old version of WP. It’s only a matter of time when someone finds some security breach that is (of course) not patched for old versions.
In any case, do you get an error on installing the theme did you get an error when you upgraded from WP 3.0.5 to 3.1 or do you just not get the theme installed? In the latter case, did you use the WP installation or FTP?

    Thread Starter leoallende

    (@leoallende)

I try to upload it using wrodpress> appearance> install themes>

I get this message: The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/leoal0/public_html/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03

I still have not been able to conect to filezila ftp because I get a: rotocol error: Unknown protocol identifier (0x50 0x50 0x48). Most likely connected to the wrong port.
    Connection to server closed.

My lunarpages host tells me the port they are giving me is correct

The WP error is not likely caused by the theme or have you been able to install other themes and/or plugins in the past?

Do you have a file transfer option in your plesk/control panel/whateveryourhave? In any case, your host should help you with the FTP error, that’s really their issue.

    leoallende,

You may try to make a little experiment on your local computer:
    1. Install wordpress 3.0
    2. Install template
    3. Upgrade wordpress to 3.1 version.

As for support guy and his answer, there is a huge possibility that his answer is not true. So may be it would be much simpler to install 3.0 version and use the template without any upgrading. As for security issues, you should just perform backups once in few days, and even if something happens, you just replace it with backup. It’s always a matter of time when someone finds some security breach even in the newest version.

To connect via FTP, you should type such values into appropriate fields in Filezilla:

    1. host name: your domain name, IP address or server domain name.
    2. username: ftp username or username from your control panel account
    3. password: password for your username
    4. port: 21 (default ftp port)

I have connected with the filezilla FTP, I think I’m about to make it but I am confused about the last step probably because I dont know how to upload the files.

-I have already created the wp-config.php file
-Connected with FTP to my page

then I click “public_html” on the remote site and on the local site “wp-content”. Then I click transfer>manual transfer then I click upload and I recive a message that says local file is a directory instead of a regular file.

    What am I doing wrong?

Just drag and drop local file to server side part of the window using mouse.

    (@leoallende)

I have according to my FTP successfully uploaded the WP files but I see no changes on my control panel and I’m not redirected to an installation page.

    What could be going on?

Thanks guys I really appreciate all your help!!

The WP error is not likely caused by the theme or have you been able to install other themes and/or plugins in the past?

You can try to disable the theme and plugins to see if that helps.
Also read my earlier reply about WP files all but wp-config.php.
