Illegal string offset warnings after update to 4.0

    Hi Mark,

    I just updated WordPress to version 3.8 (no issues encountered) and today the plugin to version 4.0. I now get 24 warnings similar to this:

    Warning: Illegal string offset 'gs_tbl_hdr_bkgd_color' in D:\xampp\htdocs\my_path\wp-content\plugins\game-schedules\includes\mstw-game-schedules-admin.php on line 1530

    The strings reported are:

    Some more information:

    • When I try to update an existing schedule, I get this in addition: Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at D:\xampp\htdocs\my_path\wp-content\plugins\game-schedules\includes\mstw-game-schedules-admin.php:1781) in D:\xampp\htdocs\my_path\wp-includes\pluggable.php on line 896
    • In the Game Schedules overview, each field has warnings similar to this: Warning: Illegal string offset 'admin_date_format' in D:\xampp\htdocs\my_path\wp-content\plugins\game-schedules\includes\mstw-game-schedules-admin.php on line 1015

    I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, to no avail. WP_DEBUG is set to false. I’m running with the German locale.

    I can’t point to any site, as I’m still only developing on my local machine.

    I got the same problem, after upgrading to 4.0 my dahsboard is getting tons of errors:

    The schedule page also returns the following errors before generating the game schedules:

    The Warnings have nothing to do with WordPress 3.8 compatibility. I just rolled back my installation to 3.7.1 and get the same warnings when updating the plugin to 4.0.

    Hey Guys,
    I really appreciate the work you have done in looking at this. Thank you for your efforts to make the plugin better.

    Yes, the warnings have nothing to do with WordPress compatibility, they are PHP warnings, not errors. They should go away if you turn of debug by setting WP_DEBUG = false in your wp-config.php file. Mallard66, I hear you when you say that does not remove the warnings, but I’m not sure what to tell you about your local development environment with xampp. You might want to take a look at the last post in the FAQ for an alternate method. radurosca, if you turn debug off as above to you still see the warnings? Because I don’t. For the colors warnings if you set a color (to anything), then clear it, the warning for that color option should go away.

    The ‘headers already sent’ warning is a bit more concerning to me because it doesn’t make any sense on line 1781 and it usually causes an error. Are you still seeing that warning? If so, would you mind setting the slider game date color to any color and see if that warning persists? You can then clear it.

    Hi Mark, the wp-config.php file already has the debug setting set on false

    I followed the recommendation to fill out every color in the display settings and this successfully cleared the warnings. I also downloaded the pre-release patch but haven’t checked the outcome. But for now I think we can close this problem!
