• My WP site was hacked. They corrupted wp-config.php. My host shut down the site and I had to start with a new install. I have a list of plugins needed by the host to get started. Here is the list and any help locating and installing would be great:

You will need to manually obtain from legitimate vendors and reinstall the following plugins:

    salient-nectar-slider
    uninstall
    woo-show-empty-categories
    wordpress-seo-premium
    salient-shortcodes
    breadcrumb-simple
    salient-social
    salient-home-slider
    usps-woocommerce-shipping
    js_composer_salient
    wp-defender
    wpmudev-updates
    salient-portfolio
    salient-demo-importer
    salient-widgets
    salient-core
    woocommerce-colororimage-variation-select

If you wish, you can provide us with the installation packages, and we will install them for you.

It seems your images are loaded through a CDN that is configured to work with your www subdomain. The images should start loading properly once the clean installation has been moved to the www subdomain.

    Best regards,

Any plugins that start with “salient” are likely part of the commercial Salient theme you’re using. You can only get these plugins and the theme from the developer here: https://themeforest.net/item/salient-responsive-multipurpose-theme/4363266

The “uninstall” plugin is extremely outdated, and you shouldn’t even consider using it. The same applies to “woo-show-empty-categories”, “breadcrumb-simple”, and “wp-defender”. I can’t find a plugin called “usps-woocommerce-shipping,” “woocommerce-colororimage-variation-select,” or “wpmudev-updates” anywhere.

Overall, I would recommend that you don’t try to rebuild the website exactly as it was, but rather rethink it. Take this opportunity to build something modern – not something based on such outdated software. Because if you do that, it will likely get hacked again very quickly.

My goal right now is to get back running. I will need help along the way updating from outdated software. I am a fulltime gunsmith/machinist with service and products. Each day down is another day without orders.

The software you’re using isn’t just outdated. It hasn’t been supported for many years. There are no updates available for it.

If you want to get back online quickly and this is a shop, I would actually recommend building a completely new website. You can get that done quickly:

Install a fresh copy of WordPress.
Then install the Storefront theme: https://wordpress.org/themes/storefront/
    And the WooCommerce plugin.

You’ll need to configure WooCommerce according to your requirements and, of course, add your products to it.

Depending on what the latter looks like for you, this can actually be done in a few hours. You could do this yourself without further support and at no additional cost.

Again: avoid using outdated software for which there are no updates anyway.

Alternatively, you can of course find someone to recreate your old project and adapt and fix the outdated software for you. You’ll surely find someone like that here: https://jobs.wordpress.net – but it will certainly cost something – including time.

I am using my own theme for the site at present. Do I need the salient plugins if I want to remake the site? I am also considering building a new site as I have the time.

As mentioned above, the Salient theme and its associated plugins are commercial products. We can’t provide any guidance on that here in the forum. Generally speaking, however, I would say you don’t need them if you’re no longer using Salient. Unfortunately, I can’t say whether you’ll lose any features that are essential for your shop, since I’m not familiar with these plugins for the reasons mentioned above. If you have any questions about this, please contact Salient’s support team.

I do have a theme that needs updating but cannot find how to do it. It is 12.1.0

Which theme are you referring to? Pending updates are generally listed under “Updates” or “Appearance”.

It took 2 days and now the site is back up and running. Is there any other security I cand add to the site beside defender Pro?

    Moderator threadi

    (@threadi)

There are a number of security plugins to choose from: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/security/

However, these alone are not enough. You should also make sure to install updates regularly and, if necessary, check that your hosting environment is up to date (PHP version, etc.). See also: https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/security/hardening/

I’m partial to the Shield security plugin. Wordfence, Ninja Firewall and others are good as well. Do note that many of them are also available with “Pro” versions that provide even more extensive protection. They also differ in the complexity of setup. Avoid adding multiple security plugins as they can interfere with each other.
On my clients’ sites that I maintain, I also provide an extensive .htaccess file that blocks many attacks before they even get to WordPress.

I have the website back up and running with a problem. I updated the ADMIN login password and logged out. When I attempted to log in to check the new password it didn’t work. I hit the back arrow on the browser and I was back in. Does this sound strange to you?
