I want to remove the theme

This is my first time dealing with wordpress HTML. I’m used to Bravehost.

I don’t want to use the pre-settings for HTML. I want all of the HTML to be in the editing section, none anywhere else.

The site I built was in Bravehost HTML and I just want to transfer it to WordPress.

Any help would be appreciated.

I can post the source code if necessary.

Use this plugin to remove WordPress HTML formatting, basically what it will do is remove the <p>’s that automatically inserted into each post. That should give you more control over the post.

I’ve tried it, but maybe i’m messing something else up because it hasn’t formed the HTML how I had it in bravehost.

are you talking about how the theme displays the code or how WordPress formats a post?

I’m actually not sure because I’ve never used WordPress before.

There was a previous author on the site I’m working on now, and their template is still active.

I’ve tried uploading the style.css and the original template I was working from, but neither has helped my situation.

Would seeing the code help?

You would just need to put the HTML inside the theme files and then put the loop in there.

Consult the codex, http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development for exactly how to develop a theme for WordPress.

Okay, so I’ve figured out how to edit the files of the template… do I need to just delete the information from all of the pages I won’t be using and add my information to the header, footer and index “.php” files as well as the style.css that I already have?

You will need to fit your existing styles to WordPress. By virtue of the fact that you were previously using Bravenet, I assume you aren’t too familiar with CSS. For now, if you want to get your site up and running, I’d look for a simple theme with the layout and color palette of your existing site. I peeked at the source code and there is some amount of tag soup there. However, if you want to learn, there are some great tutorials on how to theme for WordPress. And that would teach you how to take an existing design, such as the one you have, and convert it to WordPress.

Most of the pages on your existing site (e.g., Services, Portfolio, References, etc.) can become static WordPress pages so that should keep things simple.
