Try adding this to the top of your .htaccess file:

    DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm

Wow. Ithought that all me work was lost. It has been a long day and to get this tonight I was going crazy good thing it was not a Monday Night football night. Now is there anything I can do or say to my host to not let it happen again. Or do I change my host?

The code that you gave why is it so valuable

The code instructs the browser to use index.php as an index file, followed by index.html and index.htm. Typically, it’s not necessary to have this in your .htaccess file, but I image that something changed at the server level to suddenly require it.

I wouldn’t worry about it happening again. The .htaccess file will override any such changes that your host may make in the future.
