I Hate Your New Plugins Grid Display Format!!!

You really should bring back the old format with the accompanying supporting info for each plugin. Plus I have to scroll all the way through just to find the one plugin I am searching for even though I supply the exact name.
And what happened to searching by Relavance or Popularity?
I could go on and on but, I’m sure you get the picture by now. The new display format is INEFFICIENT!!!

What plugin did you search for that that happened?
It doesn’t matter which one I search for. It’s the new layout wordpress has initiated with the new column layout instead of the old list layout.
The reason Jan was asking, is the new layout is suppose to be “better” for when you are searching for a specific plugin, so if you are supply exact name and it;s not showing up in the first couple of results then there maybe an issue that hasn’t been spotted.
So while the feedback on the new layout has been taken on board and will along with other feedback, help shape future iterations, you may have also to add to your woes potentially found a bug so we would like to investigate that as well.
The feature I miss the most with the plugins is the ability to browse through them in order from most recently uploaded/updated to oldest. I found a lot of really cool plugins that way – sometimes even ones that did things I would never have considered searching for. Since the ones at the top had been most recently updated/uploaded, if I did want to search for a specific kind of plugin (rather than by name) I didn’t have to wade through plugins that were no longer supported or were outdated.
PLEASE let us sort by “most recent” again.
Hello,
I’m a VERY new WP user but so far so good. I have been having a great time and reading as much as I can BEFORE making choices and changes. As a new user I did want to chime in and agree with Kriselda_Grey: I feel the ability to search by most recently updated plugin is critical to all developers both new and old. Or, maybe conversely, the ability to exclude plugins that have not been updated in the past six months (or some appropriate time period).
The single biggest time sucker I have had to deal with is the endless wading through plugins to find A) the functionality I need B) the plugin info to see if it is something over my head or within my current skill set. Having older outdated plugins combined with new plugins across two columns is very difficult to work through. I would even go so far as to say a rating system for level of ease would also be very effective in reducing time sucking support questions for plugin developers.
I also think it should be standard practice to have a video link showing the install and functionality of the plugin as well as the published price of the “premium” functionality. I have no problem paying for what I need to get the job done, but I really dislike that I can’t see the functionality in action first and hunting and pecking through info for the premium price is also very time consuming.
I would be very interested in being involved on whatever development group deals with these user usability issues.
Good post K2E2.
The lack of options that really are obviously useful in all area of WordPress is astounding. The single biggest time sucker I have had to deal with is the endless wading through plugins to find A) the functionality I need B) the plugin info to see if it is something over my head or within my current skill set.
I hate to say it but there’s no search on the planet that can do that.
Why? Well how do you search for “I need a twitter plugin that will retweet my posts on the 6th hour, 12th, 18th, 36th, and then every 3rd day…”
Searching is about knowing EXACTLY what you want. Otherwise you slap in something general, find something close, and star to refine your terms.
Having older outdated plugins combined with new plugins across two columns is very difficult to work through.
We already pull any not updated in 2 years. Just because a plugin is older, though, doesn’t mean it won’t work.
PLEASE let us sort by “most recent” again.
If eBay for example, and other online purveyor’s can provide a choice between “grid” and “list” display there should be no reason for WordPress
to provide similar convenience “as a choice”. You already have the mothballed list display. It should be even easier for your organization to include this choice since your organization is a coding or programming one.As Infusionsoft so succinctly puts it Here
“The interactive list view makes it fast and easy to work through a list…”
while “You may prefer the grid view when analyzing list data…”There is a place and a reason for each view. Perhaps next time a quick review of what is already being offered to viewers would be more appropriate than what I consider to be a rush to keep up with the Jones approach.
