    Hi Chouby,

this morning I have updated you plugin and my page and the wordpress admin front end were not accessible.

I’ve uploaded in the plugins directory an old copy of polylan directory and it worked fine.

Trying to upload your new version I have disinstalled the plugin and reistalled from scratch using both the “online” version and the zip file you posted. Nothing the problem is still there.

BUT I have another one: even if I uploaded the backup of polylang directly, by disinstalling entirely the plugin I lost the data. So, for example, the language buttons disappeared.

Is it possible to recover the polylang settings from an old backup?

    Many many thanks in advance.

    A.

    Hi!

this morning I have updated you plugin and my page and the wordpress admin front end were not accessible.

If you got a blank page and wrote some custom code based on Polylang functions, please read the first paragraph at: https://polylang.wordpress.com/documentation/documentation-for-developers/functions-reference/

If you used the red delete link in the plugins list table, then Polylang has removed all its data from the DB, as all plugins should do.

If you made a DB backup before, you just have to use this backup and your site should work as usual.

    Chouby,

I have restored my site using a backup, now it works just fine.

Since this version of your plugin seems not to work, at least for my site (don’t really know which is my PHP version), should I wait for another, improved version?

    Many thanks!

v1.7.8 is on the way to fix an issue with old PHP versions.

If this is your problem, you will have it at every upgrade until you fix it as described in the doc.

    Dear Chouby,

the new fixed version of polylang works perfectly!

speaking about the link you sent me:

    https://polylang.wordpress.com/documentation/documentation-for-developers/functions-reference/

Since I’m not a programmer, it’s quite difficult to check the “pll__******” strings the document refers to. In which file should I check for them? I’m not a programmer and, to tell you the truth, I don’t even remember how I exactly implemented the translation buttons in my site since I did it a couple of yars ago!

By the way my site is http://www.webfoddculture.com, any advice would be very appreciated.

    Again, many thanks!

I’ve got probably the same problem.

    http://www.bike4happiness.com

And the matter is, that I lost my access to the WP dashboard, so I can not uninstall the updated polylang plugin.

I did a restore from an older backup, indeed it restores some old files of mayhem route but nothing changes or happened with this trouble.

    Im not familiar using php.

    can somewhere help me??

    thx in advance.

Arturo I got my site back, dashboard included, accessing via FTP to the wordpress folder. I’ve just replaced the httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/polylang directory with a backup of it I did a week ago. Nothing more! DO NOT uninstall (as I did) the plugin, otherwise you’ll lose all its setings!
Keep in mind that the fixed version Chouby released yesterday works just fine (at least to me).

Anthyx, thanks for your advise. BUT:

I found the way how to reach via FTP the PHP file but
I have no idea where to find that backup, if i did it. Is there some php script to change / overwrite the old one?

May Chouby can send me a link.

Im walking in the dark 😉

Argh, since I’m not a programmer I am very careful and every day I backup my site. Can’t tell you about the PHP files, as I told you I just replaced the entire folder with the backup. Hope Chouby can help you!

    F***** I DID IT!!

now idea how, but it works now. and by the way, will be my last update of any kind of plugin ever 🙂

    thanks !

And THAT would be another error, or so it seems. Outdated plugins give way to site hackers: don’t ask me why, but it’s like this. So, pay attention. Ah, use a plugin “UpdraftPlus” (it’s the one I use) to backup your site and avoid any further inconveniences. Take care. A.

Don’t worry about that then. The reason why I wrote about this is that I get support request at every update by people having written some custom code but who forget to check that Polylang is active.

    @arturowing
@anthyx is right. The reason are security updates. Every software are written by humans who sometime make mistakes and leave security holes. Of course, we fix them as soon as we are aware of them. If you don’t upgrade regularly, you keep security holes which will exploited by hackers.

I’ll mark this topic as resolved.
