    Hello,

I use Widget Option on just a few old articles on my website.

But I’ve just discovered today that a table called widgetopts_global_categories

is taking up more and more space in my database; it’s now the second largest table.

Where does it come from and how can I delete it or reduce its size?

    Thank you

    Hi Mej,

I deleted the plugin and the table was reduced by half, but when I reinstalled it, it went back to how it was before.

    Hi @pierreto,

Thanks for the update! It seems that the large database size might be related to how Widget Options functions. Could you please confirm if the size increase caused by the Widget Options plugin is affecting your website’s performance?

If so, we’ll go ahead and relay this to our dev team to explore the possibility of optimizing or reducing the database usage. Looking forward to your response!

    Hello Mej,

I don’t know how this affects the site’s performance, but it’s always good to be able to control the size of the database, especially since it’s a plugin I no longer use. I just have some old articles with it.

I said that widgetopts_global_categories was in second place, but there is also widgetopts_global_taxonomies in fourth place.

Combining the two means that your plugin is the one taking up the most space in the database!

‘We’ll go ahead and relay this to our dev team to explore the possibility of optimising or reducing the database usage.’

    Yes, you should do that!

    Hi @pierreto,

We got a word from our devs. Widget Options does not create any database tables.

Widget Options saves data to the “option” table if it’s related to widgets. If it’s post block data, we save it to the “post” table. And for Widget Options settings, we also save them to the “option” table.

Let us know if you have any further questions or if there’s anything else we can assist you with!

    Hi Mej,

I think widgetopts_global_categories and widgetopts_global_taxonomies are tables from your plugin!

When I made search about those tables, I found think about widget option.

    Hi @pierreto,

Our dev’s follow-up response, the “widgetopts_global_categories” is simply a keyword used by the plugin to store category-related cache. Its purpose is to optimize performance by caching data on your website and it does not create or store database tables.

Thanks and let us know if you need more clarifications into this.

Then why widgetopts_global_categories and widgetopts_global_taxonomies are tables who take the biggest place on my website?

Then, can I delete this tables?

    Hi @pierreto,

It may seem that the old articles on your website are taking up space. We recommend backing up your website’s data first before deleting these tables, as this might affect some of your articles.

Thanks, and let us know how it goes on your end!

    Hi @pierreto,

Just checking in. Were you able to delete the widgetopts_global_categories and widgetopts_global_taxonomies tables? Let us know if this resolves the big database size on your website.

    Kind Regards,
    Mej, Widget Options Team
