HTTP response: cURL error 28: connect() timed out!

    I created a daily scheduled backup job a couple of weeks ago, and noticed today that it’s never run a backup. In the information, I have this error:
    Not expected HTTP response:
    WP Http Error: cURL error 28: connect() timed out!

    I thought it might be due to lack of space in my dropbox, but I’ve cleared space and it’s still not able to run. Can you help please?
    Could it be an incompatibility with Jetpack? I saw a thread with the same error code where it said some plugins are incompatible with Jetpack (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/curl-error-28/).

    I’m new to this, having just created my first site 2 weeks ago! So please keep instructions simple 🙂

    Hi @asnowstorm,

    This kind of error occurs when BackWPup is unable to access wp-cron.php.

    I’d try the following:

    1. Disable all plugins besides BackWPup and see if the message remains
    2. Ask your host if there is some limitation with wp-cron, or if loopback is disabled.

    Please let us know the results of the above.

    Thanks so much for your help!
    I disabled all plugins except BackWPup and it still didn’t work. So I contacted my hosting company who fixed it, saying this:
    Loop back was disabled, backups are not normally stored on the server its self these are normally stored externally.

    Hi,
    I’ve had the same error again.
    I noticed today that I’ve not had any backups since 14th June, but no notifications of the error.
    I tried running the backup and it said the email desination wasn’t configured properly. FOr some reason, my email was no longer in the “to” field. So I re-added my email and tried running the backup again. I got this error:
    WP Http Error: cURL error 28: connect() timed out!

    I called my hosting company to check if loopback was disabled again, which it wasn’t. They said they’ve had a couple of reports that Jetpack interferes and causes the 503 backend fetch error. I disabled Jetpack and tried again, but the same error occurs.

    PS I’ve now also tried deactivated ALL plugins, but still get the same error when I run the backup job; WP Http Error: cURL error 28: connect() timed out!

    In case it’s relevant, I also got this error earlier today when I updated to the newest version of BackWPup:
    <!DOCTYPE html> 503 Backend fetch failed Error 503 Backend fetch failed Backend fetch failed Guru Meditation: XID: 410859667 Varnish cache server

    I refreshed and the error went away, and it had seemingly updated itself to the new version. But I’ve read that refreshing sometimes doesn’t completely fix the issue.

    I had this error also yesterday when I installed Woocommerce, and strange things have since happened to my website (e.g. added the homepage blog post slider to every single page).

    Not sure if the two are related, but in case they are…
