I’ve some confusion regarding the use of http and https, particularly while installing WordPress from cPanel.

1 – If you don’t have SSL certificate at the time of WP installation you can only install WP using http:// or http:// www. and you got the SSL you can install that in server and setup 301 redirect to serve from https.

2 – If you have SSL certificate acquired for the domain and already installed that in server you have all (http:// or http:// www. and https:// or https:// www.) options open while installing WP.

If I have SSL certificate installed in server, which option would be the best today for new WordPress Installation.

Option 1 – Installation with http. Then 301 redirection configuration.
Option 2 – Direct installation with https. So no need for redirection.

Some more info or reference material would be highly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Jay

Then just install it using https:.

    Hi Jan,

    Thank you for your input.
WordPress documentation recommend to use http for installation and then redirection.
Below link for your ref. It says so under the “Implementing HTTPS for WordPress #” section.

Don’t create duplicate topics for the same thing. I’ve removed your new one, that makes it harder for volunteers to support you when you do that.

That really needs to be changed. 😉

If you have a valid cert and a working https setup, then just use https and go with that.

    Hi Jan,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused due to the duplicate query.

The matter is resolved now. Thank you for your valuable inputs and have a great day :), Jay
