Where are you adding the excerpts?
Why?
Are you not happy with the excerpts generated?
By manual excerpt, I assume you are using the Excerpt field on the post editor and not the <!--more--> tag. Manual excerpts should retain the HTML. Which theme are you using? Some themes ignore the manual excerpt field and just put up the default WordPress excerpt. Are you sure that’s not the case with your theme, i.e., is the wording in your manual excerpt different than the wording in your post so you can tell that the manual excerpt is being used?

I am using the post grid plugin. I want only certain details to appear in the excerpt so I add date<BR>
time<BR>
location<BR>
in the excerpt field in event post. I can’t get any html to work
