• I am the founder of a company with some technical skills, but I don’t write code.

What I am trying to do – adding onto a site I had professionally built. Don’t have $ to pay the below changes.

I have users in 3 different roles – they will interact but have different areas they can access based upon their role. I have Ultimate Member set up for people to register for their specific roles.

There will be a paid level for each of the 3 roles. Planning to use a monthly subscription. The thought is when they pay they get assigned a new role giving them new access & abilities.

    Where I am stuck

What plugin do I use for people to pay and when the payment is complete their role automatically switches to a paid role, opening up new areas of my site. The plugin in should handle subscriptions so charge are made on a specified schedule.

  • If you read through the Ultimate Member plugin page, you’ll see it supports the Woocommerce shopping cart. Woocommerce has subscription extensions, so that would be one way to achieve goal.

When I googled “Ultimate member payment”, the first hit was this Q&A on the official website:

Does Ultimate Member have paid membership functionality?

Ultimate Member does not currently have any paid membership functionality. If you want to take payments for memberships using PayPal, Stripe or other payment gateways you will need to use another plugin. There are many plugins that exist for taking payments including Restrict Content Pro

There is also a 3rd party plugin for Ultimate Member which allows you to add subscriptions via WooCommerce:

Personally, if payment is a critical piece of such a project, I’d default to a membership plugin that has payment built-in, rather than handling payment via an extra plugin (or a couple of extra plugins, as would be the case with the Woocommerce approach)… creating additional point(s) of failure.
