Hi @gaytz,
You’re definitely on the right track, and I understand how confusing it can be when the file shows as forbidden after uploading it. This usually happens because the Media Library isn’t designed to handle protected downloads — especially for digital products like ZIP files.
To fix this and make sure your download link works properly, here’s what to do:
- Go to the product you’re editing in WooCommerce.
- Scroll to the Product Data section and check the “Downloadable” box.
- A new section will appear below for Downloadable Files.
- Click “Add File” and upload your ZIP file directly through this section.
Uploading your file this way stores it in a secure location (usually inside the woocommerce_uploads folder) and ensures customers can download it properly without running into permission errors or broken links.
If the issue continues after trying this, I’d like to better understand how your site is set up. Could you please share more details about how downloads are managed on your site, how users access the files, and whether you’re using any third-party plugins related to downloads, selling, membership or file protection?
I’m going to mark this as resolved, as we didn’t receive any update on this. We’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.
If you have a few minutes, we’d love if you could leave us a review: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce/reviews/
