Hello – I have recently joined this company and we want to update our entire website, however we need Word Press Business. Thru this process I discovered I cannot get Word Press Pro without being the super admin. It looks as if a previous agency, who we no longer use is signed in as the super admin, but they do not appear on the users page as I believe they were deleted and now I cannot add myself as the super admin as I am an admin. I have attempted to add by going thru the wp-content/themes but there is no folder functions.php file – any help appreciated

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

In WordPress there is a Super Admin role only for a multisite installation. Is it one of these? Then you would have to change the access to a user with this role in order to be able to access it (and thus exclude others). This would be possible with access to the database. There should be a wp_users table in which the user should be named. The user’s email could be changed there.

You can find details on the Super Admin role here, for example: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-a-super-admin-user-role-in-wordpress-multisite/

By the way, it is unclear to me what you mean by “Word Press Business” and “Word Press Pro”. The free package from wordpress.ORG does not have such designations.

Hi @kirstenkoe, I believe you have cPanel or hosting panel access. If you have then you can check all the users from the database, update and delete if needed.

Very very important: Try this only if you have database management and WordPress file structure expertise. Else ask your hosting support or experts.

How to do: Login to the hosting panel, get the WordPress config file and note down the database name. Now, Go to the database, wp_users table and then you can see all the available users. You can take any action needed from here.

@threadi – thank you for your response. I think I am confusing things. Apologies I am in Marketing trying to figure out this computer stuff, which clearly I am not good at. I believe I do not have a multisite installation (as we only have a single site) – so there in lies the issue – as I now know there is no super admin on a single site application. But I do see another person email not affiliated with our account on word press – that is troubling me and I would like to get that changed. Under settings on my dashboard – there is an administration Email Address – the person listed here is not with our company and does not appears on the users page. Any idea how to change that?

As well as here is the business plan I referred https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/business-plan/

Here are 3 ways to change this admin email: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-change-the-wordpress-admin-email/

The link you mentioned leads to wordpress.COM. This is something completely different from wordpress.ORG. See this article:

    What’s the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?

You obviously have an individual installation based on wordpress.ORG, which is why you are in the right place in the forum for user questions about free WordPress, plugins and themes.
