    Hi
We are a small business and had someone build our wp website http://www.drummondclinic.co.uk/ and maintain it for many years. The resulting code is very bespoke, tailored to our needs. We have now parted company with our developer and this means that I have had to pick up the pieces.
As you can see we are not on the current wp version and I need to install a new plugin. I have gone to our test site and upgraded to the latest version, but I am having some issues.
I have since noticed that our ‘test’ site is very far removed from our ‘live’ site, and I would like to bring them in line. For example I noticed that the menus are different. I went in and looked at header.php and the 2 files are completely different.
What I don’t know is how I go about updating the test site.
I have downloaded the files (using FileZilla) to my Mac (just in case :o) so is it just a case of replacing all the files in the test file with those in the live file? I don’t know if the links or paths in the live site are relative or not.
Any directions or advice you can give me would be very readily received.
    Many thanks

As you are now more than 2 versions behind the current version of WordPress, you need to review Upgrading_WordPress_Extended before proceeding with any upgrade.

A core WordPress upgrade will not touch your theme.

Thanks Esmi. I know the wp upgrade will not change the theme. The themes are different because the test site has not been get up to date with changes made to the live site. I wanted to use the test site to trial the wp upgrade on, but if the test site doesn’t mirror the live site it’s kinda moot.

Have you upgraded the test site yet? Did you review the page I linked to above?

I am reading the page now. However I had already upgraded the test site to 3.4.1 before I posted.

OK. Have read and followed the upgrade instructions you directed me to Esmi, thanks.
The upgrade has however caused some issues. I suspect they may lead to more questions for you later but I will try and do some investigation first.
Thank you for the guidance though Esmi. I have book marked these references for future use.
