Check your widgets, if there is as default widget called “Categories”. Just drag and drop it out from header.

Thanks for replying.
I checked the widgets, there was no mention of ‘Header’ heading.
The options provided includes:
– side bar
– footer left
– footer centre
– footer right
I tried to take the ‘categories’ widget to sider bar area. It went fine.
Can you please suggest how to proceed?

Have you done your own menu from Appearance > Menu?
There choose just your pages and remove categories from menu.
Otherwise I’m not sure what else to do before going to the code world.

Here, in the submenu under the section – ‘Navigation’ are provided different options.
I checked ‘Hide all categories’ and my purpose is solved.
