How to manually restore website?

    Guys, please help!

    I had 2 WP sites both hosted on GoDaddy. The first problem occurred with, let’s name it site1, which was hosted at /site1, when I changed permalinks to ‘posts’ – everything crashed with 500 internal error. I couldn’t even access wp-admin, everything crashed. Then I tried to recover it manually, replacing all the WordPress files that I had from FTP backup. Still that 500 error and nothing works.

    The second problem, even worse, with site2 that was hosted at root directory. I accidentally imported site1 files into root where site2 was hosted. So now, obvious, both of them down.

    So, my question is how to restore everything? I have all backups from FTP from both sites and I believe databases are still not changed.

    Still that 500 error and nothing works.

    What is in the .htaccess file?

    I accidentally imported site1 files into root where site2 was hosted.

    Do you have a backup copy of site2? Does your host?

    For Site2, if you have the FTP backup of those files, you should be able to just upload those backed up files again and overwrite them.

    For Site1, you are saying you updated the permalinks to be /posts instead of the default permalink setting and are now receiving a 500 error and are unable to access any pages, even the main index of /site1?

    What is in the .htaccess file?

    My host is on Windows, but anyway, I created one for any case and still doesn’t work.

    Do you have a backup copy of site2? Does your host?

    I have a backup from FTP, but what do you mean by host? Do they backing up files?

    Remove it. You cannot use that file on a Windows server!

    The company who host your site. GoDaddy.

    Yes. At first I thought it’s because of my single page theme, but when I changed permalinks in MAMP everything works perfectly.

    Thanks god, site2 is up. Hopefully my boss haven’t noticed that. But for site1, just a thought, is there any file I can manually change just to go live again, I dont’t care right now about permalinks view, just want to go live. But since I restored a backup and it doesn’t work, do I need to do anything at GoDaaddy?

    I would see if it would be possible for GoDaddy to load a backup of Site1 for you. Or if you feel comfortable and have access to phpmyadmin, you can manually edit the setting in the database following this guide: http://tech.shawnlelle.com/resetting-wordpress-permalinks/
