How to make files *writable*?

    I’m working on my blog and having a bit of difficulty. WordPress 2.1.2 is successfully uploaded to my ANhosting account. I’ve successfully uploaded the theme(s) that I wish to use and even imported my old blog content to the new site. However, my problem is in making the template files/pages *writable* so that I can make some simple changes.

    I’ve changed the control settings on my Cpanel for each template file to *777* to make them writable with full permissions, however….when in WordPress and attempting to edit, every pages says “If this file were writable you could change it”. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong?

    Any help is enormously appreciated!

    777 would make them writable, indeed. My guess is that you changed the permissions of the wrong files or are looking at the wrong files in the theme editor or something like that. Hard to say.

    The files appear to be in the correct location and every theme that I uploaded is here: / public_html / wordpress / wp-content / themes / followed by each specific uploaded theme. I have several themes uploaded, but not an excessive amount and all have permissions set to 777. Do you see anything wrong with the location?

    set permissions on each individual theme file to 666 for the WP theme editor to work. When done editing change them back to 644 and the folder to 755.

    I discovered my problem. I just hadn’t gone *deep enough* into the files….the individual theme files and changing the settings there.
