• When i moved to new host after overgrowing a shared one, i found out that my database contains a lot of really old stuff, from old plugins and so on. Most of them i deleted, but still i want to make a complete clean-fresh install. The thing is i dont know how nor i can find any tutorial for that. I can only found how to migrate all together.

Since i dont know what my database contains (whats important and what is not ) i want to start from the start, but i have more thn 6000 posts, images and i cant go wrong with this thats why i ask.

What i want is something like this

    1.backup everything
2.export posts, images, comments and also not to lose url and shares (juice) . I dont want to export it trough database because on that way i would again import everything. I want to export it separately . I am not sure do i need to download upload folder or is there any other way.

3.Delete everything what i can find.Install wordpress again, and then import posts, images, comments so the plugins stuff and everything inside database wont be on the new install , like it would be when you import the whole database.

    Any guide for this pls.

  • With something this large and important, I strongly recommend that you start by exporting everything over to the new site first (including plugins and uploads folders).

Then on a local testing environment, set up a “clone” of your live site (basically a local test server version of your WordPress site) and carefully go through and figure out what you need or don’t need.

Then when you have a more trimmed down version of your site, export that local database (using a plugin like migrateDB or what not) and re-import it into the new live site (make sure you still have your backup just in case).

And then re-upload all the local testing environment’s WordPress files except for wp-config.php.

At the end of this process, you should have a trimmed down functional version of your old site.
