How to locate certain code in WordPress

Hi all,

I just took over the webmaster of our website. But somehow due to poor documentation, the code looks like a myth, in terms of where each part of the code is located. I was wondering if there were any ways to easily locate different parts of the code (e.g. I tried event listeners in Chrome dev tool) in wordpress.
