How To Change WordPress URL – Troubleshooting

    I have followed the steps for changing your website’s url from http://example.com/blog/ to http://example.com by using the WP link:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL.

    However, I continue to do something wrong because I cannot seem to make it work. I am using NetworkSolutions as my FTP.

    1) I change my site url in WP:settings>general
    2) I log into FTP File manager and copy index.php into root folder
    3) I edit new index.php as : ./blog/…
    4) I save work
    4) I update permalinks page in WP

    After all of these steps, my website presents the 404 error and I can only access my site by using the /blog/ extension to my url.

    Any ideas?

    Just curious, why are you moving the index.php? You really shouldn’t have to mess with that file at all.

    You can also try the ‘Edit functions.php’ section of the codex url you posted.

    Thank you for the reply!

    I am trying to move the index.php based off of the instructions of this video I found. This video perfectly describes what I am trying to do yet I am still incapable of doing so.

    I tried the ‘edit functions.php’ but was also unsuccessful. I would still receive the 404 error after following the instructions
