How to call the ping script…?

Sorry about the newbie question folks…..

I have an aggregater plug in that doesn’t seem to ping when it adds posts to a blog.

Is it as simple as putting an include in the plug in script to wp-admin/execute-pings.php – or is that just for Trackback pings?

If I do just include that script do I need to add any variables – for example “execute-pings.php?var=ping”?

I did a search but after reading a few dozen articles and posts I was more confused than ever 🙂
