    Hi
I am trying to make this set up work with composite products:
I want to give the customer the opportunity to choose
    1) Fabric 2) Thread 3) Model
And then at last a size.
But I have no idea how to add the size-option. Can you help me?
    Kind regards
    Karin

    Hi @seafarm ,

Thanks for your reaching out to us. The link you provided was not available. Still, I’ll give you some instructions on this case based on your description. Hope this helps.

For your case, you can achieve that by keeping all those options as Attributes of a variable product (4 attributes: Fabric, Thread, Model, Size). For each attribute, provide the all available variations with a price.

From the admin dashboard, go to Composite Product setting, then in the option “Accept same product” choose “Yes”. Now, you can choose either of the following ways:

    1. Add this variable product to the composite as a component, choose Source: Products. Then in the front-end, there will be a list of all available choices with all attributes shown. For example: Variation 1 (Cotton, Red, Pattern A, size L) and so on. If you have 24 variations, then all of them will be displayed as a listing in one screen.

But in this way, customers can’t choose multiple items per component, only single choice is accepted. So if you would like to give buyers a chance to buy another or more items (of the same or different attributes) in the same order, add that variable product again to the second component. This method allows you to easily manage the stock.

    2. Duplicate your variable product into 3 copies, disable 3 out of 4 attributes respectively in each duplicated item. Then add them to the composite as components. For example, keep “size” and disable other 3 attributes to have the first component “size” available.

Repeat this process until you have a composite with 4 components for customers to build their favorite deal. Kindly note that you cannot use Stock Management in this case, only the displayed Stock Status (in stock or out of stock) is applicable. And you also need to hide the duplicated products from shop and achieve search (adjust their Visibility) to prevent customers from adding them to cart from the shop.

The second method is just a way to work around your need, as our plugin WPC Composite Products only supports the listing of all variations in one screen. It wasn’t supposed to be used for setting steps for choosing each attribute of a variable products (eg. you can’t choose a material then choose a size).

That is to say, a composite can only be built from many “parts” that were created as individual products, like selling a computer where buyers can choose RAM, SSD, HDD, etc. (RAM, SSD, HDD are in facts must be individual products). But if you want to keep those RAM, SSD, HDD options as variations and the computer is a variable product, you need to do as in method 1. Or you can work around it as in method 2.

Hopefully my explanations are clear and informative enough for your needs. If you have any feedback or need further help, feel free to voice. We’re glad to listen to your idea.

    Best regards.

Thank you for your help. It is a bit more complicated, than I thought. But I will try to follow your instructions and hopefully work it out.
    Kind regards
