I’m currently using the twenty ten theme and I need to put a navigation menu where the default site description is located. How would I go about doing this? Thanks!

Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes.

I’m not changing the theme itself. I created a new child theme and copied over all the files from twenty ten.

Then that’s not a child theme. It’s a new standalone theme. Try looking in header.php.

So should I go about copying all the files from twenty ten or create a child theme? What’s the best practice I guess is what I’m asking.

Best practice recommendation is to make a child theme. See the link I gave above.
