How to add a domain?

I am working on a website but the domain I have to type in is “localhost/8888…….” and I would like to insert a domain name. How would I do this? And I’m using MAMP Server… would I have to keep this or use something else… I always have to turn on the servers when I want to get on and edit my website. Thanks!
