• Our organization changed web addresses earlier this year and did not renew our old address, which was http://www.washpsa.org. Now I see – and many of our members see – that http://www.washpsa.org is “up” an lists a bunch of old stuff taken from our previous site. It is confusing people and it is in some cases very personal and misleading stuff. We are a psychoanalytic training institute and we need for this to be removed. The “site” says it is a “workpress” site. How do we get this taken down so that people are no longer confused?

  • This would be a matter for you to take up with whoever runs the site I’m afraid. The WordPress software can be used by anyone. If you do a quick google search, there are a number of articles on what to do if someone is stealing your content.

Is there a way to find out who “owns” the address at this point?

My daughter thinks this is a “sample” site used to try to find someone to purchase the domain name. The material on it is old and when you try to link it won’t work. There is no contact info, but when you try to click on “sign in” it brings up the WordPress sign in page.

I had a similar experience with Network Solutions. I forgot to renew my registration only to find it had been purchased by (effectively) Network Solutions.
Fortunately they were willing to sell me my former domain (clarkfarley.com) for something like $1500. lol
Given how many other people on the planet would really want such a domain name, I choose to wait a year when it expired again and bought it for the normal $34.95 or whatever the price is…

It might have been a fluke event, but it seems that your (former) domain name may have more value on the open market.
