I changed my primary domain to one of my addon domains (http://sassafrasink.com/).

The transfer of domains went well. However now my site give an error of a missing wp-includes/session.php file. I have my old primary domain files and I see the missing php file it is referring to but I am not certain how to go about fixing it or placing it in the new primary domain.

Like wise I do not mind reinstalling WordPress. Even though the site was up and running I dont mind starting from scratch with WordPress. Whatever is easier. Please help!

  • What you can do is download the current version to your computer, and simply copy over all the files (via FTP) to your current WordPress directory, except the wp-config.php, wp-settings.php files, and except the wp-content directory.

That should give you a clean install of WordPress, and it will replace that missing file as well.

Also don’t forget to update the site_url and home_url, in your database wp-options table and make sure its poiting to the new domain name.

    Hi guys!

Thanks for your responses. I have my issue resolved thanks to an awesome HostGator Tech. I am still not quite sure what she did to make it work but I can now access my WordPress dashboard. Unfortunately I have to start all over. Hopefully I can just use my WP files I backed up…. !

This is the chain of events getting my site “back up”:

    – Apparently my site and home url were still showing lapetiteidea.com (previous domain)
so she updated it to sassafrasink.com inside of the phpmyadmin.

    – She disabled my plugins.

    – Changed my theme to WP default

    – Tried some other themes.

    – None of these steps worked.

    – Finally she Re-Installed WordPress using QuickInstall

What happened is when I moved the domain as primary I should have installed the WordPress on the root. However yI had a folder for sassafrasink.com. That is what the tech told me but I still dont quite understand what she meant by that. I am just thankful I can access my dashboard.

This is the link she gave to me to help me understand what went wrong:

Ok, yeah, that all makes sense.

Go ahead and mark this topic as resolved on the right hand side of the page.

    Thanks!
