Homepage php not working

I saw this thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-insert-the-pop-up-in-the-home-html/
But when I add
<?php echo do_shortcode(‘[sg_popup id=”1″]’); ?>
to my home page which is template-home.php I get a 500 HTML error.

Inserting the shortcode on other pages from the WordPress interface works fine.
